The new playground at Ramsey Town Commissioners' redeveloped Lezayre housing estate has been officially opened by lead member for housing and property Mary Bruce and ‘test driven' by pupils of Audlyn School.
The playground has been named after the late Beryl Quine, former head teacher of Albert Road School and a long-serving Ramsey Town Commissioner, who was the driving force behind the original play area located on the site of ‘old' Lezayre estate.
Mrs Bruce paid tribute to all those parties who had contributed to the successful completion of the Lezayre redevelopment, a five-stage project completed on time and on budget at a cost of £25.3 million in partnership with the Department of Social Care to provide 149 new public sector housing properties ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, six of which feature adaptations for those tenants requiring care and/or mobility support.
On a lighter note Mrs Bruce praised the pupils' support of the Children in Need campaign that fell on the same day as the opening of the playground and complimented the children on their ‘dotty' face painting.
Installed in the new playground is equipment supplied by UK playscape specialist manufacturer Wicksteed designed to stimulate young children's imagination and provide opportunities for children of all abilities to develop new physical and social skills.
